There were many Buff Lodges on the island of Malta when the former British Armed  Forces were stationed on the Island. At their strength they had their own club Sir Winston  Churchill Club in St Julian's. Alas the forces withdrew over the years the lodges became  fewer and fewer. The last two lodges to survive were the Falcon Lodge Birzebugga and  the Calafrana Lodge Sliema. These two eventually merged and the Calafrana Lodge  closed five years ago.

The Buffs like the Lions are a non political or religious benevolent society who raises  money for charity and the benefit of the less fortunate. The Lodge will be raising money  for a local orphanage this year. A few members of the Order decided earlier in the year  that it was time to reintroduce Buffaloism on the Island. Plans were put in motion during  February this year and with the help of some publicity from the Times of Malta we found  that there were still members on the Island. An application was granted to open a new  Lodge on 25 May 2005. A Venue was kindly provided by a member of the order. This  being Peppi Cassar owner of Sneakers Pub Depiro Street Sliema

After months of planning the opening ceremony was performed by the Grand Primo of  England John Herbert who with other Grand Lodge officers flew in from England  especially for the event. The Lodge was duly opened on Tuesday 27 September 2005 at  7pm at Sneakers Pub with 22 members present including members from England who  had come especially for the opening. When the meeting closed at 9.30pm asocial evening  was held for members, wives and our Maltese and English friends. A wonderful evening  was had by all which lasted into the early hours.

The Lodge meets now every Friday evening at 6.30pm until 9.00pm at Sneakers Pub. Any  members on the Island on holiday are most welcome.
